NC Republican Senate leader Phil Berger and House leader Paul Stam, along with NCGOP leader Tom Fetzer, announced a legislative initiative to combat the possibility of Obamacare passing in Washington. The new initiative is aimed to protect individual decision making ability with respect to personal health care. The announcement was made during a joint press conference earlier today. From the press release:
“Republicans will not stand idly by and watch as citizens' rights to make their own health care decisions are taken from them by the federal government.” Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger
Raleigh, N.C. — The Republican leaders of the State Senate and House were joined by the Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party today promising to fight the federal take-over of healthcare and protect an individual’s right to make decisions about their own health coverage. The Republican leadership promised a legislative initiative called the Health Care Protection Act (HCPA).
The leaders pledged to introduce such legislation during the short session in May at the General Assembly. Without support from Dems, the leaders pledged to introduce it with a more favorable Republican led General Assembly next year.
No mention that I could find, but the critical issue is still whether Congress has the right to force you to purchase a product (health insurance) if you chose not to. It will be interesting to see what kind of response, if any, the democrat led GA will have come May.
