After years of suspicious relationships, murmurs in the wings, authorities turning a deaf ear or simply not paying attention, arrests, fires, and all manner of speculation, State Senator RC has now been involved in a violent shooting.
The victim, 22-year-old Kyle Blackburn, was shot in the leg and is hospitalized in fair condition. Blackburn is a law client of Senator Soles. He served 1 year, 8 months for felony breaking and entering, and was released in June of 2008.
Authorities say another client, BJ Wright, was with Blackburn at the time of the shooting, as well as Wright's girlfriend. Wright was released from prison couple weeks ago. WWAY reported last week that Senator Soles gave BJ Wright at least $8,000 while Wright was incarcerated.
This comes on the heels of allegations from another former client that Soles had molested him when he was 15, a story later recanted. It also is in the wake of the a former client having his house set on fire in the middle of the night who claimed that Soles had given him tens of thousands of dollars in cash and even purchased a corvette.
How far will this bizarro story go and what do his fellow Democrats in the senate think? Methinks they'll be awfully quiet for a while. Read more here on WECT or here on WWAY in Wilmington. WRAL finally decided that Soles was worth a second glance and even described him as a Democrat.
Politically, there are many, many implications for the entire state's democrat and republican leadership in the senate resting on whether Soles leaves the senate now or sometime next year.
